Gerakan vice-president Datuk Chang Ko Youn has retained his post as the party’s Perak chairman after beating his challenger, Liew Yew Aw, today.
Chang, 51, who is also Beruas division head and has been Perak Gerakan chairman since 2005, obtained 276 votes while Liew, who previously served as Perak Gerakan vice chairman, got 101 votes.
The party’s national-level election supervisory committee secretary Tan Sri Dr Chin Fook Weng announced the polls results at the end of the voting and tallying processes at Syuen Hotel at about 2pm.
Dr Chin also announced the election of six state-level committee members.
They were Vincent Hooi Wy-Hoon (261 votes), Chong Meng Sze (252 votes), Cheng Teng Woh (230 votes), Yaw Yee Chuang (202 votes), Phuah Lai Wan (196 votes) and S. Pandian (171 votes).
On Aug 3, Gerakan Women head Datuk Tan Lian Hoe retained her post as the movement’s Perak chief uncontested while Sungai Siput division head Cheah Chee Kuan, 33, was elected Perak Gerakan Youth head after the incumbent, Cheng Teng Woh, 46, did not contest due to age.
