PETALING JAYA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- While Wanita Gerakan backs any proposal to ban gambling joints, it however, limits its support for a total ban of outlets serving alcohol.
Its chief, Datuk Tan Lian Hoe, said the wing would support any effort to reduce crime and family violence.
"We will not support anything that is detrimental towards an individual.
"However, in the case of liquour, some people like to drink a bit to release tension, stress... so, we do not support a total ban as it infringes on the rights of an individual," she told reporters after launching The Galeria Merdeka at the Mydin Mall in Subang here Friday.
Thursday, the PAS Dewan Ulama wanted the four Pakatan Rakyat states - Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor - to follow in Kelantan's footsteps and ban gaming joints and limit outlets serving alcohol.
Meanwhile, Tan, who is also deputy information minister, said the private sector and rakyat could play their part to keep the Merdeka Day celebrations merrier.
