KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan will urge residents’ associations and local authorities to assist the party in setting up web cameras in housing projects throughout the country.
Secretary-general, Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye, said he had already set up web cameras in his Bukit Bendera constituency in Penang.
He said he would ask state offices to set up the cameras in strategic locations such as near junctions soon.
"It has proven to be effective," he said, adding that the camera cost between RM500 and RM8,000.
Chia said some developers have also started using web cameras in their housing projects to ensure the safety of residents.
"The public and authorities could be updated on their surroundings 24 hours a day."
Chia said Gerakan would also send a proposal to the Government and police on ways to create a safer environment.
"We will ask Gerakan branches to work with Rakan Cop so that we can be the eyes and ears for the police."
