KUCHING, April 17 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Rakyat brand of politics is not relevant to Sarawak as the state government practises multi-racial politics, Gerakan Adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said Thursday.
"Pakatan Rakyat is not relevant in Sarawak. If they come, they only come and disturb," said the former federal minister of Energy, Water and Communications.
"The PKR-DAP-PAS coalition talks about multiracial politics only after the political tsunami in the peninsula but in Sarawak multiracial politicis has existed since independence and that's why Sarawak is still so stable," he told reporters after calling on Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Early this month, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that PKR, DAP and PAS had agreed to consolidate their cooperation by forming the Pakatan Rakyat (People's Alliance) and would be promoting multiracial politics to uphold the rights and interests of all Malaysians.
Keng Yaik said the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) comprising Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), was practising multiracial politics.
"I always come to Sarawak to talk to Sarawak leaders (about multiracial politics). Over the years, I have learned a lot on how Sarawak manages multiracial politics which provides the political stability, fairness and justice to all races in the state," he said.
He also said Sarawak was a good example for its counterparts in Peninsular Malaysia in managing the rich resources.
"We can learn how Sarawak manages the resources and politics and in being fair and just to the multi-ethnic groups in the state," he said.
Keng Yaik, who was Gerakan president for 26 years, said he would help acting party president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon to revamp and rebuild the BN component party in the face of current challenges and setbacks.
"I found the right leader in the name of Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon but unfortunately the political situation put him in a bind.
"He has to struggle and struggle very hard to put the party in the right footing again. He can back his line and I will be behind and helping him, not disturbing him," he added.
In the March 8 general election, Gerakan won only two of the 12 parliamentary seats and four of the 31 state seats.
